Pakistan vs South Africa, 2nd Test: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview
Fresh off the back of a huge upset in the first Test in Abu Dhabi when Pakistan won comprehensively by seven wickets, the two teams head to Dubai for the second of this two-match series. Victory for Pakistan would give see South Africa's first series loss away from home since 2006.
What: Pakistan vs. South Africa, second Test
Where: Dubai International Cricket Stadium
When: Wednesday 23rd October to Sunday 27th October, 10:00am (local), 07:00 BST
Live Stream/TV Info: PTV Sport (stream)
Weather: Accuweather predicts a typical Dubai day; very hot and very sunny with .
Overview
The UAE is fast becoming a fortress for Pakistan. Buoyed by their impressive seven-wicket win in the first Test, they will be looking to the experience of Misbah-ul-Haq to provide them with some consistency and the spinning wizardry of to take them to a historic series win.
South Africa will be without their leading run scorer and most consistent batsman Hashim Amla (waiting for the birth of his child) and may well also be without their No. 1 strike bowler Dale Steyn who will take a late fitness test to see if his hamstring injury has recovered sufficiently for him to be able to get through a whole Test match.
Although still favourites with the bookies, South Africa struggled with the ball in the first Test; their seam bowlers failed to get any sort of reverse swing and spin bowler Robin Petersen cannot match the Pakistani spinners for revolutions and turn. They may look to bring in Imran Tahir as another spin option that captain smith can turn to.
If Steyn is unable to play, South Africa may bring in reserve seamer , who has previously come into the side when Vernon Philander was injured. Steyn would be a big loss although his four wickets in the first Test came at an expensive economy rate. Morne Morkel was the most efficient of the South African seamers, bowling 23 overs in the first innings for just 35 runs.
The pitch in Dubai will be pretty similar to the one in Abu Dhabi: a fairly low, slow turner. They are conditions that undeniably favour Pakistan's bowlers. Saeed Ajmal was the leading wicket-taker in the first Test, taking six for 133, but Mohammed Irfan was also very effective finding the right lengths to get late movement.
It was that movement that got the wickets of Smith and Amla in the first innings. Irfan's height is also a great advantage when trying to bowl short balls and get bounce on pitches that don't offer much.
Pakistan are known for their inconsistency, particularly with the bat, and will be looking for big runs again from and at the top of the order. However, as we saw in their small second-innings run chase, a Pakistani batting collapse is never too far away.
Key Men
Pakistan
It will be the skillful spin bowling of Saeed Ajmal that is likely to be the key difference between the two sides but they will also inevitably be reliant at some point in the Test on the experience and patience of captain Misbah-ul-Haq batting at No. 5 to steady the ship.
South Africa
In the absence of Hashim Amla, South Africa will be looking to Alviro Petersen and Graeme Smith as openers to give them a much better start to their innings than they did in the first Test when they were 19-2 and 57-2.

Younis ignored for ODI series against South Africa
The one-day career of senior batsman Younis Khan appears to be over with Pakistan's national selection committee ignoring him for the five-match series against South Africa in the United Arab Emirates.
The 16-member squad announced today for the series in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah also does not include seniors like Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal who have been ignored by the selectors since after the ICC Champions Trophy in England this year.
Younis, one of Pakistan's most prolific batsmen, has also not been considered for one-day matches since he last played in the series in South Africa early this year.
"The idea is to build up a balanced side for the 2015 World Cup with emphasis on specialist players for this format," one national selector said.
He said the plan was to build and strengthen specialist Test, one-day and T20 squads since the ICC Test championship was also now confirmed.
The other players in the Test squad not retained for the one-day series include left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar who took five wickets in his debut Test and openers, Khurrum Manzoor the man of the match in the first Test with a hundred and debutant, Shaan Masood who scored 75.
Pakistan won the first Test against South Africa this week in Abu Dhabi with major contributions from these three players.
The national selectors, however, recalled all-rounder, Muhammad Hafeez for the matches from Oct 30 to Nov 11 in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai.
Hafeez was dropped recently for the Test series against the South Africans.
The ODI squad includes senior all-rounder Shahid Afridi and four left-arm pacers, Muhammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir.

Dhoni century in vain as Faulkner blitz gives Australia win over India
• India 303-9; Australia 304-6
• Australia win by four wickets; lead seven-game series 2-1
A brilliant 139 not out by Indian captain MS Dhoni turned out not to be enough after Australia chased down a total of 303 to win the second one-day international in Mohali.
A composed 76 not out by Adam Voges along with a brutal late onslaught from all-rounder James Faulkner, who hit an undefeated 64 off just 39 balls, secured the win for the touring side, giving them a 2-1 lead in the seven-game series.
India's bowling again left plenty to be desired (they have allowed totals of over 300 in each of the three games thus far) with Ishant Sharma in particular coming in for some harsh treatment – he conceded 63 from his eight overs as the Australians made the required runs with three balls to spare.
Dhoni looked to have put his team in a strong position, anchoring the Indian innings with his superb century, coming in at 76-4 after Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh had been dismissed in successive balls, and heroes of the previous game Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan were both out relatively cheaply.
Dhoni himself should have been out on 105, but Australian skipper George Bailey dropped an easy catch in the covers off the bowling of Shane Watson. Virat Kohli contributed India's only other significant score, stroking an attractive 68 before being caught behind off spinner Glenn Maxwell.
Australia's run-chase began well, with Aaron Finch and Phil Hughes putting on 68 for the first wicket, but a flurry of wickets and a tight spell of 1-31 from Ravi Jadeja saw the innings stall. Bailey and Voges stabilised things, but with 42 required from the last three overs, it looked in vain.
However, Sharma was reintroduced into the attack, and Faulker blasted a remarkable 30 runs – including four sixes and one four – from the 48th over. The assault was all the more impressive, considering Faulker's own bowling had been taken apart in the Indian innings, particularly by Dhoni who took 32 off his final two overs.
"Faulkner's hitting was as good as I have seen," said Bailey after the game.
"If I could learn to catch, we would have been chasing 20-30 less from MS. The bowling was fantastic, particularly after the other day. 300 is always imposing, but we were quietly confident when we came off the field."
The umpiring from Richard Kettlebrough and Chettithody Shamsuddin caused a few raised eyebrows, with Shane Watson's dismissal – LBW to Jadeja – notably suspect.
Australia's James Faulkner Exposes India's Bowling Stocks
When Brad Haddin holed out to Ravindra Jadeja at long-on with the score at 213-6, it appeared certain that India would cruise to a second consecutive victory in this ODI series over Australia.
On the back of a batting masterclass from their captain MS Dhoni, the home side had put a handbrake on their guests during the game's second innings.
Unable to accelerate during the middle overs, the visitors looked to be falling apart when Glenn Maxwell was run-out after a dreadful mix-up with Adam Voges in the 37th over. So when Haddin was dismissed with 91 runs (and just 53 balls) still remaining, it looked as though Dhoni's brilliance in the afternoon was set to be the difference between the sides.
Enter James Faulkner.
The hard-hitting all-rounder settled in nicely to reach 24 not out from his first 18 balls faced before launching the one of the most sparkling displays of hitting ever witnessed in ODI cricket.
Four sixes and one four culminated in a 30-run battering of Ishant Sharma in the 48th over of the innings. A bullet-like slap over midwicket was immediately followed by towering six down the ground from a shot that resembled more a golf swing than a traditional cricket stroke.
Failing to heed the lessons from his mistakes earlier in the over, Sharma continued to bowl back of length, watching a further two deliveries land amongst the gob-smacked spectators.
Faulkner's stunning hammering of the Indian quick saw the match transform quicker than Ishant's critics could line up to slam the speedster.
With balls (and his team's hopes) disappearing over the fence with each Faulkner blow, it's unquestionable that Dhoni would have been lamenting India's fatal absence of bowling quality.
Poise under pressure, combined with a methodical approach, would have secured an easy victory for the hosts, yet somehow India managed to let a seemingly unloseable game escape from their grasp.
The home side's crop of bowlers, most notably Ishant, were spectacularly exposed. However, India's dearth of bowling options is hardly a new concern.
In this series so far, Australia have passed the 300 mark in each of their three innings, the second of which was a mammoth 359-run effort.

India's problems with the ball have been exacerbated during the final 10 overs of Australia's innings in this series. With each game that has passed, the home side's inability to contain the visitors with precision and accuracy has been illustrated, as the table below shows.
MatchRuns Conceded in Final 10 Overs1st ODI 802nd ODI 1223rd ODI 102
Although limited overs cricket is considered a batsman's game, India's reliance on their batting lineup will no doubt be troubling the team's administrators.
India's current combination simply lacks the ability to both contain and genuinely threaten the opposition's batsmen.
The emotionally charged Sharma lacks the composure needed to bowl at the death of a ODI innings, as his wayward tendencies and sheer unpredictability make him a lingering headache for his captain.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Vinay Kumar, while more dependable, lack the ability to truly penetrate, leaving India's opening onslaught with the ball anything but threatening.
Compare that with Australia and it's easy to see why the tourists can remain competitive even when the batsmen don't fire.
In Mitchell Johnson, the Australians have a genuine weapon, a bowler capable of tearing through the opposition when at his best. While Johnson has failed to reach the levels many expected of him, he retains the rare capacity to produce bunches of unplayable deliveries.
His opening partner, Clint McKay, is a reliable option for his captain, while Faulkner is incredibly effective in limited overs cricket with his hard-to-detect changes of pace.
That variety and threat is something the hosts are clearly missing.
Yet in previous years, India had always been able to turn to their brigade of elite spinners to do the damage. Unfortunately for Dhoni, that is another luxury he's currently without.
Ravi Ashwin will never be a world-class tweaker. Jadeja is considered steady rather than lethal. Whereas previous Indian generations had owned devastating spinners, the current crop lacks the incisive deliveries that made their predecessors such great weapons.
The fact that Ashwin and Jadeja have just five wickets between them in three completed matches so far perfectly reveals the extent of their flaws. The part-timers in Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli are often required, and that is also a poor reflection on Ashwin and Jadeja.
Of course, India will continue to win matches in the ODI arena, such is their strength with the bat. But to become a truly formidable limited overs team, India must unearth a handful of elite bowlers if they are ever to carry out complete performances.
England must play Gary Ballance in Ashes, says Jason Gillespie
• Yorkshire coach says tour selection was justified
• Left-hander was leading run-scorer in the First Division
Alastair Cook's England embark on their mission to rewrite Ashes history with few issues troubling them other than artificial ones schemed up by artful antipodeans. Shane Warne's slingshots aside, the major decision Cook and the team director, Andy Flower, have is choosing their No6 batsman for the first Test in Brisbane.
Talk has been of Ben Stokes slotting in to provide a fifth bowling option, but the smarter money would be on another uncapped tourist, the Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance. Including a specialist would provide the team with greater rigidity and be in keeping with the successful formula applied on the 2010-11 tour. The 23-year-old Ballance, a Zimbabwe-born alumnus of Harrow School, is an established favourite of national-selector-in-waiting James Whitaker. He was the leading run-scorer in Division One of the County Championship this summer, ending with 1,251 at an average of 62.55. Yet his inclusion in the 17-man squad still raised eyebrows.
Such reflection draws disdain from his county coach, Jason Gillespie. "It has absolutely amazed me that Gary was seen as a shock selection," the former Australia fast bowler said. "Frankly to look at it like that is ridiculous. With all due respect to Michael Carberry, he was a shock selection. Carberry is a fantastic cricketer, don't get me wrong, but this lad has bossed it in Division One – and he's played half his games at Headingley, where it's always nibbling about."
Gillespie added: "He adapts to situations and reads the game as well as any cricketer going around. That's his biggest strength. He has shown he can score all around the wicket on front foot and back foot, against seam and spin. For the last two years, he has won games, in all competitions, setting a target, chasing a target, what more do you want?
"If he does get an opportunity I think he'll take it with both hands and once in the team he might be there for a very long time. You only have to consider that immediately after being picked for the Ashes squad . That's the sort of character you're dealing with."
Regulars at Headingley would testify to the stocky left-hander's technical superiority over team-mate .
Meanwhile, another Yorkshire player, . Bresnan's accompaniment of the official party on Wednesday's long-haul flight to Perth means that all of the bowlers that featured in the 3-1 win in 2010-11 travel once more. Fitness permitting, he would make up a first-choice seam trio with Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad. The reserve pace stocks resemble a forest of coast redwoods, in readiness for the extra bounce Australian surfaces provide.
Not since the 19th century have England won four Ashes series in a row but Cook – privately miffed by Australian attempts to occupy the moral high ground on style, tactics and spirit of the game after the 3-0 summer defeat, only too shrewd to express it publicly – has the right tools at his disposal to make the trip every bit as memorable as his 766-run bounty of three years ago.

James Faulkner smashed a fifty off 24 balls and helped pull a sensational heist for Australia, who sneaked in through the back-door for a four-wicket victory over India to go 2-1 up in the seven-match series.
Chasing 304, Australia snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when Faulkner clobbered Ishant Sharma for a four and four sixes in the 48th over, which yielded 30 runs and put the Aussies on the course to an improbable victory. Sharma bowled length balls, short balls and invited Faulkner to take his pick and left Australia with 14 to win off the last two overs. R Ashwin bowled a brilliant penultimate over, giving away only five but Faulkner kept his cool and deposited Vinay Kumar for his sixth six to hand Australia an incredible victory.
It was India's game for most of the day. They were four down in the 13th over after they had been put in by Australia but Dhoni's unbeaten 139 off 121 balls (12 fours, 5 sixes), his ninth hundred and Virat Kohli's fourth successive score of over fifty, set the foundation for one of the finest comebacks in modern-day cricket. Despite Mitchell Johnson's 4/46, India managed to finish with 303/9 off their 50 overs, setting Australia a tough target.
The Aussies of course started well, as they would expect from Aron Finch and Phil Hughes, who added 68 for the first wicket but lost their way thereafter, losing key wickets as the required run rate was allowed to shoot past unmanageable proportions. Skipper George Bailey (43) tried hard but Adam Voges in spite of his fourth half-century, proved to be a detriment - at a time when Australia were forced to score at nearly eight an over for the latter half of the innings, Voges, playing his 28th ODI, took 63 balls to get to his fifty. Besides, he was guilty of calling the big hitting Glenn Maxwell for a run before sending him back, only for Shikhar Dhawan to catch the latter short with with a direct hit.
However, Australia were propped up by a quick cameo by Brad Haddin (24 off 16) before Voges and Faulkner creamed 91 off 50 balls to set up a sensational win.
Earlier, India were reeling at 76/4, having lost Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh off successive deliveries to Johnson when Dhoni joined Kohli in the middle. Australia were breathing fire and the hosts were relying on their two most successful batsmen in ODI cricket to bail them out of trouble.
Despite wickets falling at the other end, Kohli had held his own and was scoring at a-run-ball while Dhoni, who had hurt his ankle, before even facing his first ball, settled down to graft and play himself in. The Indian captain did not attempt a single big shot and was content pushing and nudging the ball in the gaps. When the team slipped to 154/6 in the 32nd over, with Kohli and Jadeja back in the hut, Ashwin walked into the middle and played a cool hand to add 76 runs for the seventh wicket with Dhoni as India edged past 200.
An expectant crowd was waiting for some fireworks as the Indian innings reached the last ten overs. Dhoni accelerated in typical fashion moving from 60 to 139 while India moved from 202/6 to 303/9, a score that had looked improbable 18 overs ago. But aided by some inept Australian bowling barring Johnson, and Bailey's respite to his Indian counterpart in the penultimate over, Dhoni blasted 34 runs off the last 12 balls he faced, setting a daunting target for the Australians.

Just an hour's play possible
First it was the damp outfield. And then it was poor light. In the end, just about an hour's play was possible on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final between South Zone and North Zone at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Friday.
But North, despite losing the toss, made the most of the available ten overs in the evening and removed both the South Zone openers, including captain Abhinav Mukund who had scored a fine century in the semifinal. The two fell within the space of three overs and South finished the day at 33 for two.
The North fast bowlers Mohit Sharma and Siddarth Kaul troubled the South openers with their pace and movement.
And though Lohit Rahul sent Kaul to the boundary twice in the second over, he perished in the first ball of the seventh, attempting to pull one from Mohit over square leg only to offer an easy catch to Rishi Dhawan.
Three overs later, Abhinav was foxed by one from Kaul that pitched outside the offstump, curled in and rattled his middle stump.
Soon after, with light fading and with fast bowler Rishi Dhawan replacing Mohit, the umpires stopped play just 55 minutes after the start.
After overnight rain had taken out the opening day's play, it looked like the action would begin on time on today, or after about an hour's delay.
For, there was no rain last night or in the morning.
But the umpires, Suresh Lalchand Shastri and Sanjay Hazare, felt that the outfield was damp at many places and gave the green signal for action to begin only at 3.30 p.m.
KCA protests
But the Kerala Cricket Association, which was hosting its maiden Duleep Trophy final and which has been allotted the first ODI against the visiting West Indies at the same stadium here on November 21, was not happy and has sent a written complaint to the BCCI.
"After a first look at the wicket before the day's start, the umpires immediately announced a 11.30 a.m. inspection…they could have had it at 10 or 10.30, the outfield looks perfectly okay," said Jayesh George, the Joint Secretary of KCA, at the stadium.
The umpires appeared very cautious but clearly they were not very keen on lowering the benchmark when it came to players' safety.
North's star Gautam Gambhir pulled out of the five-day match with a viral infection but since the team, led by Harbhajan Singh, has Virender Sehwag, a crowd of about 300 turned up eager to see him in action.
The scores: South Zone: 1st innings: Abhinav Mukund b Kaul 7, Lokesh Rahul c Dhawan b Sharma 9, C.M. Gautam (batting) 8, B. Aparajith (batting) 0; Extras (b-5, lb-4): 9; Total (for two wkts, 10 overs): 33.
Fall of wickets: 1-23 (Rahul), 2-33 (Abhinav).
North Zone bowling: Mohit Sharma 5-2-11-1, Siddarth Kaul 5-2-13-1.

South Africa's Batting Catastrophe Against Pakistan in the First Test
by Antoinette Muller
Cricket news, opinion, photos, and more | Bleacher Report
South Africa's unbeaten run of 15 Tests have finally come to an end. Pakistan clinched a seven-wicket win in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, marking the first loss for South Africa since they lost to Sri Lanka in Durban in 2011.
For Pakistan, it was a remarkable turnaround after losing to Zimbabwe just a few weeks ago. For South Africa, it was a catastrophe of batting proportions, a "batastrophe," if you will.
In the first innings, two batsmen scored over 70 percent of South Africa's runs. In their second innings, two batsmen scored 59 percent of their runs, with one of those batsmen being a lower-order player. That, for a No. 1-ranked Test side, is a catastrophe, and that's exactly where things went wrong for the visitors.
There was little wrong with the pitch. Pakistan proved that much when they managed to score over 400 with two players managing centuries and two managing half-centuries. Sure, there was the odd delivery which turned square, and Mohammed Irfan was very threatening early on with the extra pace and bounce he extracted, but overall, it was a very good Test match pitch.
South Africa have not played Test cricket in seven months, and it showed in the batsmen. A number of players had played some form of limited-overs cricket recently, and others busied themselves with county stints, but those who had not been in action for a while were clearly a little bit shaken.
Barring the one warm-up game South Africa had, Graeme Smith had not played since May. Alviro Petersen had played some cricket for the Lions in the recently concluded Champions League, but his form in the longer format of the game had been shaky for a while. He's not passed 30 in eight innings.
Hashim Amla had a good stint with English county Surrey before he linked up with South Africa, and he last played on 24 September, scoring 151. He managed 50 in the warm-up game and clearly looked far more settled than some of his teammates.
His 118 in the first innings was one of the few saving graces from a batting perspective. Undone by a brilliant delivery in the second innings, Amla's time in the middle on the county se up was clearly beneficial.
Jacques Kallis last played competitive cricket in May and, much like with Smith, it showed. Despite a good knock in the warm-up game, where he scored 70, at Test match intensity, Kallis looked out of sorts batting. He failed to reach double figures, incidentally, for the first time since the last time South Africa lost.
AB de Villiers, JP Duminy and Faf du Plessis were all part of South Africa's limited-overs team to tour Sri Lanka. De Villiers and Duminy also played in the Champions League; du Plessis did not. It's been five Test innings since du Plessis passed 30.
That the batsmen are short of time in the middle is clear. Those who have played some sort of cricket recently looked far more competent, and they made a significant contribution. Another one or two warm-up games would have done a world of good for those who have been out of action, but there is little time to wallow.
There's not even time for another warm-up game before the second Test begins. What's worse, South Africa might have to play the second Test without Amla, whose wife is pregnant and is due to give birth around the same time as the second Test is due to begin. Their best batsman from the first Test will then be dispatched to "daddy duty" back home, and it leaves the team in a whole new pickle.
The No. 3 position is crucial. Dean Elgar is the likely option to fill in the slot, but he, too, is short on practice, and he is not a natural No. 3.
There are a few options:
Shift everyone up a number and let Elgar slot in lower down the order
Slot Elgar in at No. 3, hoping that he can adapt
Bat De Villiers or Duminy at three and bat Elgar lower down at No. 7, shifting Du Plessis up.
Let Elgar open, his usual position, and drop Petersen down the order a bit. Although Petersen has not batted at three in Tests before, protection against the new ball and a little more time to get settled might up his confidence
Whatever happens, South Africa's batting will need to shape up. Although Pakistan are only ever one wicket away from a collapse, they cannot be over-reliant on that happening. It will be an acid Test for the batsmen, who have become used to the luxury of their bowlers doing most of the work on bowler-friendly pitches.
