After crushing India by 72 runs in their first of seven one-day internationals, the two sides will do it all again in Jaipur on Thursday. Clint McKay and James Faulkner were the stars for Australia, picking up five wickets between them, to help the visitors to an easy win in the end. It's a new day and a new game, though, with a clean slate for both teams.

Weather: All good weather-wise, with BBC Weather predicting temperatures of up to 32 degrees, cooling to about 20 in the evening. 

 

Overview

Australia scored plenty of runs in the first ODI, with Aaron Finch hitting 72 off 79, Phil Hughes managing 47 off 53 and skipper George Bailey chipping in with 85 off 82 as the visitors notched up 304-8 in 50 overs. It is imperative that the Aussies find consistency in their one-day batting, something which has severely let down the Test team during the Ashes.

No other batsman managed more than 31 in the first game and the visitors have to err on the side of caution in relying on just a few players.

India's biggest problem was their bowling aside from Ravi Jadeja, who bowled a fantastic 10 overs. Jadeja finished with figures of 10-0-35-1, the only bowler to manage an economy rate below four. The batting was adequate and certainly a positive for the hosts, but if they hope to salvage anything from the second ODI, it's the bowling that needs to be kicked up a notch.

The side shouldn't change too much and Suresh Raina will remain at No. 4 as part of India's quest to find something to fill that role. According to Cricinfo, MS Dhoni told reporters that all the other batting slots are settled, but it's Project No. 4 they are currently focussed on.

As of now what we want is for Suresh to bat at No 4 for a considerable period of time. It's only Yuvraj Singh who we have got and if he is in good form and we go till the World Cup without anything happening, then he will bat there. But if he doesn't, all of a sudden we can't say we do not have a No 4 batsman. 

All the other slots, we have players and we even have replacements. But apart from Yuvraj, I don't see anybody who has batted 50 ODIs at No 4. That can be a concern and we will have to rectify that from this point. No point going too late and then saying we don't have time to do anything.

Ravi Jadeja proved that he has the control to really tie down one end and keep a lid on the run rate. If they can exploit a little bit of turn and the Aussies' perceived weakness against spin, he could be brutally destructive. 

 

Australia

James Faulkner is one of Australia's brightest stars. He's a cunning all-rounder and after taking three for 47 in the first ODI, his tail will be up. That confidence boost will hopefully show what he can bring to the party in terms of batting too.
