The Sri Lanka batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan is set to retire from Test matches after an 87-match career. The 36-year-old, who made his highest Test score of 193 not out as captain in the drawn Test against England at Lord's in 2011, will make the announcement personally on Thursday.
Sri Lanka Cricket, the national governing body, confirmed the news in a short statement published on its official Facebook page. It read: "TM Dilshan is to formally announce his retirement from Test cricket tomorrow.
"The all-rounder has played 87 Tests and scored 5,492 runs at a modest average of 40.98. He has scored 16 Test centuries and 23 fifties at a strike rate of 65.54."
Dilshan made his Test debut in November 1999, in a series against Zimbabwe, and has been a familiar presence in the Sri Lanka team since. He made his 16th Test hundred against Bangladesh in March.
